Why Mormons?
This is a good question that gets asked probably more than anything else. Being that we live in Utah is one major reason that we have taken great favor to minister truth to Mormons. What better place than Utah to get into a dialogue with a faithful member of the Mormon Church.
Another reason would be our hearts. We have grown a heart for the Mormon people. It’s kind of like a doctor who takes interest in a certain field of medicine. If the doctor decided to focus his career on children then of course he is going to dedicate his medical education in the realm of pediatrics. This does not mean he is biased to other types of patients or does not like a certain type of patient. It simply shows that the individual has a heart for children. Our heart is for the Mormon people.
Now that being said, everyone needs Jesus and we don’t deny anyone the freedom to find the love of Christ.
Do You Deny That Mormons Are Good People?
Mormons are sincere hard working people who are sincerely wrong. Mormons make great neighbors and friends. They uphold some strong moral and ethical values that we would agree with. But if our good intention were what was needed in order to save us from sin then we don’t need Jesus do we?
In Romans 3:23 That all have fallen short of the glory of God. In Romans 3:11 It says that no one is good, not one of us. We don’t meet the standard to be our own savior. That’s why God sent his Son. So that we may have eternal life and live in God’s glory forever. So yes , Mormons are great people that are in desperate need for Jesus.
Mormons Already Worship Jesus, Don't They?
The name Jesus does not mean much if you are not speaking of the Jesus of the Bible. Jesus warned that in the last days there will arise counterfeit Christs who would masquerade as the Messiah and claim to be the savior of the world. It's in the Bible, Matthew 24:4 & 5. “Jesus answered: 'Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.”
We have been given clear warning. Many Christs have come into this world claiming to be the true savior. The Jesus of the Jehovah's Witnesses say that Jesus was Michael the Archangel and was created by God. New age Christian science says that Jesus was nothing but an inspired and very spiritual man. And the Mormons claim that Jesus was the spiritual and sexually created son of God and brother of Satan, who was given a physical body and sent to the world to save us from our sins.
So many can say “I worship Jesus” but we must know which one. Having the wrong Jesus is a great danger and that has been the message of Christianity historically.
Have You Ever Read The Book Of Mormon And Prayed About It?
Yes, we have read the book of Mormon as well as other LDS writings and have sought truth in prayer. But God has testified through His word that the Book of Mormon is a work of man and not of God.
In 1 Thessalonians it says, "test everything and hold on to that which is good." I think a good measurement or standard for testing truth is by checking to see if a claim is in accord with God’s word written in the Bible.
Why Do You Claim That Jesus Is The Only Way To Salvation?
First of all, we didn't. Jesus made the claim and we simply quoted him and believe in every word he said. Hope fully this audio might help you, as Ravi Zacharias gave a very sobering answer to this very same question...
Mormons Are Christians! They Have The Name "Jesus Christ" In The Title Of Their Religion, Don't They?
Yes, the Mormon church is also known as the "Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." This is a weak argument that I even hear LDS leaders use for the defense of claiming their seat within biblical Christianity. Just because you possess a name does not mean you hold the authentic value behind the meaning of the name.
For example, let’s say our ministry was claiming to be LDS. And the proof was the fact that we have a picture of Joseph Smith on our website. But after reading our material, one would soon know that we are indeed not LDS. The same goes for the Mormon church when they claim that the name Christ is the end all be all to the argument. The name is meaningless unless we are talking of a Biblical Christ. In fact scientology is now using the cross on their website. Does this mean they are Christians?
Why Would An All Loving God Send Good People To Hell?
John 3:16 says that, "For God so loved the world that he sent his only son..."
We are the ones who sinned and now need a redeemer. Let us use this analogy...
Let’s say you have a child, and this child is indeed terminally ill. It is without question that they will indeed die. But, low and behold, you the have cure. You offer this cure to your child as a free gift that will cure the child from their illness and they shall live. But, the child refuses to take it. Or claims that they are going to find another cure. But you knowing better than your child, there is no other cure. This child will surely die unless they accept your gift.
This is the same for God. We are all going to die in our sins. But, God sent the cure. His Son! If we choose to accept it we will live.
So the next time you think of God sending you to hell, think again about who is really sending you to hell.
Is It Wrong To Be Critical Or "Judge" Another Religion? Jesus Said Don't Judge, Didn't He?
Occasionally, we receive correspondence from individuals standing in "judgment" over our liberty "in Christ" and our obligation to exercise judgment and discernment. Curiously, these folks fail to see the hypocrisy of their position--that of engaging in the very behavior which they claim is unacceptable. Typically, they quote Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged" out of context, with hopes of intimidating those who would seek to discern truth from error.
The terms "judge," or "judgment," are used in different ways in the Word of God; their meanings and usage are mainly governed by the context in which they are found.
When they mean to condemn, to sentence, or to punish, man [individually] is to leave that prerogative with God. "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord" (Romans 12:19). [God has established government--civil authority--as His earthly delegated representative/agent to administer justice upon evildoers. See Romans 13:1-7.
At other times the words mean to distinguish, to decide, to determine, to conclude, to try, to think, and to call into question. This is what God would have believers do in love, especially as to whether or not preaching and teaching is true or false to His Word. Paul wrote, "And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; that ye may approve things that are excellent" (Philippians 1:9,10).
The Lord Jesus both warns and commands to "Beware of false prophets" (Matthew 7:15). We could not "beware," or know a false prophet unless we exercised true judgment. For that we are given the correct standard: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20).
There are realms in which the believer is generally not to judge. In most instances he is not to judge whether or not a person is saved, if he professes to be scripturally* born again. "The Lord knoweth them that are his" (2 Timothy 2:19).
Nor are we to judge another's motives. Only God can see into the heart and know the motives that underlie actions. (1 Corinthians 4:1-5) [However, Scripture does allow for some exceptions--e.g. Philippians 1:15-18].
And we are not to judge believers concerning the eating of certain kinds of foods or drink, or keeping certain days, etc. (Romans 14; 1 Corinthians 10:23-33; and Colossians 2:16,17)
All too many believers remain immature or are actually drawn into error because they seek to exercise love apart from Scripture-guided discernment and judgment. Christians who are mature, of "full age," are "those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil" (Hebrews 5:14).
One of the reasons for the Church being in such a sickly condition today is that believers have not obeyed the commands of God's Word to judge error. "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them" (Romans 16:17). The false teachers make the "divisions," and not those who protest against their errors.
An often misapplied Scripture is "Judge not" (Matthew 7:1). This is a command against hypocritical judgment, and is not directed to those who in love and sincerity discern whether a teacher or teaching is true or false to the Word. "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considereth not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye" (Matthew 7:1-5).
Actually, the last statement of this Scripture commands sincere judgment: "then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." We are not to forget nor seek to avoid the fact that our Lord Jesus commanded us to "judge righteous judgment." He commended one, "Thou hast rightly judged." He asked others, "Why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?" (John 7:24; Luke 7:43; 12:57). Paul wrote, "I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say." Again, "He that is spiritual judgeth all things" (1 Corinthians 10:15; 2:15).
It is all too common and easy for Christians to assume a critical and censorious attitude toward those who do not share their opinions about matters other than those which have to do with Bible doctrine and moral practice. But it is our privilege and duty to do all we can to encourage their spiritual growth. We are to love and pray for one another, and to consider ourselves lest we be tempted. The safest and most profitable thing to do is to judge ourselves. "For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened (child trained) of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world" (1 Corinthians 11:31,32).
It will make all the difference if we judge our own faults as uncharitably as we do the faults of others; and judge the failings of others as charitably as we do our own!
